Editor's note. This study provides an economic outlook for Saint Lucia through 2026 and is intended for investors, policy analysts and regional desks assessing macro‑level opportunities. The panel pressed hardest on the Socrates lens, which questioned the sustainability of the projected GDP contraction, and the Ibn Khaldūn lens, which highlighted insufficient analysis of structural vulnerabilities such as inflation dynamics and foreign investment flows. Readers should keep in mind that the analysis relies mainly on World Bank aggregates and does not incorporate field research or local qualitative data. The study should not be used as the sole basis for detailed investment decisions that require granular market or operational insight.
| Lens | Verdict | Score | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Economist Ibn Khaldūn lens Structural economics: incentives, cycles and second-order effects. | approve with changes | 4 / 5 | The projections indicate a contraction in GDP growth and highlight vulnerabilities in the economy, particularly regarding inflation and foreign investment. While the study outlines potential opportunities, it lacks a deeper analysis of structural challenges that could hinder sustained growth. |
| Evidence Ibn al-Haytham lens Evidence: the quality of sources, and what is observed rather than inferred. | approve with changes | 4 / 5 | The study relies heavily on World Bank data, which is reputable; however, it lacks field research and qualitative insights that could provide a more comprehensive understanding of the local context. The absence of direct evidence from local sources or case studies raises concerns about the depth of the analysis. |
| Data Ada Lovelace lens Data rigour: units, lineage, and measured versus estimated. | approve with changes | 4 / 5 | The study primarily relies on World Bank data, which is reputable but lacks local qualitative insights that could enhance understanding. The absence of field research limits the depth of the analysis, particularly in understanding the nuances of the local economy. |
| Horizon Herodotus lens History and horizon: precedents, timelines and structural trends. | approve with changes | 4 / 5 | The economic section outlines a contraction in GDP growth and highlights inflation stabilization, which are critical for investment decisions. However, it lacks a thorough exploration of the structural challenges that could impede sustained economic growth, particularly in the face of external shocks. The projections for foreign direct investment and population growth need further contextualization to assess their long-term viability. |
| Skeptic Socrates lens Red team: the strongest opposing case and what would prove the thesis wrong. | return | 3 / 5 | The economic outlook presents a concerning contraction in GDP growth, which raises questions about the sustainability of the recovery. The reliance on GDP growth projections without addressing the underlying structural vulnerabilities limits the study's effectiveness for investment decisions. |
| Editor Johannes Gutenberg lens Editor-in-chief: one clear thesis and a decision the reader can act on. | approve with changes | 4 / 5 | The study presents a contraction in GDP growth and inflation stabilization, which are critical for investment decisions, but it lacks a thorough exploration of structural challenges that could impede sustained economic growth, particularly regarding foreign direct investment and labour market dynamics. |
